Cordless Phone Interference?

Hi

In the next few months, i'll be moving from Virgin Media (VM) to an ADSL provider.

Currently, we have 1 master VM socket in the living room, with 1 active extension in the main bedroom which comes directly from the box outside.
There is 1 dead extension socket in the 2nd bedroom, which again comes directly from the box outside into the bedroom (This 2nd bedroom will be where the modem/router will be)

When switching to ADSL, i'm hoping the engineer can just 'unplug' the 2 VM extensions and put them into the BT box?

If not, im considering buying some cordless phones, but i've heard they can cause interference with the ADSL signal, whats the score? and when buying cordless phones, what features should i be looking for to minimise any problem with the ADSL internet ?

Thanks

I use adsl and cordless phones. I have no trouble at all. It is important to fit the supplied filters to each telephone socket in use though.
Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!

I thought if you had e.g. 3 pack cordless phones, you only needed to plug one of them into the phone socket with the filter? or do all 3 handsets have to be plugged into phone sockets ?

Every device plugged into the telephone socket needs to go through a filter. With a 3 pack of cordless phones usually there's one base station that plugs into the phone socket. The other bits are just charging stands and the phones themselves.
If you use DECT cordless phones then you should have no radio interference problems as wifi runs on 2.4GHz (b,g,n) and DECT at 1.9GHz :)

So do all DECT phones run now on 1.9GHz ?

The DECT standard is 1.9GHz so all DECT phones should run within the allocated range.

I have 2 DECT phones, one on top of the adsl router (for VOIP calls) and the other sits beside it. Never have any interference problems because as said they operate at a different frequency band than WiFi.

If you want to be really safe you could use the a standard of wifi which runs at 5GHz, however this is not intercompatiable with b, g and the n standards (n is still in draft).

Virtually all cordless phones you can buy today are DECT, so you shouldn't have any problem

And to clarify on a point above, If you had 3 handsets, you would only have to plug in the main base unit to the phone line via a microfilter. If you had another phone socket, which had, say, a spare corded phone plugged in, that would also need a microfilter, despite the router not being connected to that one.
