Free webhost needed...

I have a website on geocities but the free websites are closing in September, and I need to move my files onto somewhere else. I could just ftp them up to my internet provider's free webspace but the address would be a bit of a mouthful.
What I want is free hosting, where I can upload my files and not have to use an inbuilt publishing software since I wrote them all myself in notepad. I thought Yola was a good one but they don't seem to support .htm or .html files at all, and have an annoying publisher thingy as mandatory.
Any suggestions?

You might like to consider paid hosting. It doesn't cost much for a simple package. For example you can get 1GB space, 12GB transfer/mo, php and a mysql database for £24.99 a year (plus vat) (plus 50% off first year with code JUN0609N before end of this month) with Web-mania (http://www.web-mania.com). You can get a domain cheaper elsewhere such as with 123-reg.co.uk.
So all in all you could have a .com name and a years hosting for about £200 -

Agreed about paid hosting, 3ix at $12 per year, plus the 123-reg domain could be just the job

its all in jest ... their site and forum is full of messages like that, but they are the most reliable free hosting site about (99.9% uptime) and 24/7 support via their forumsSilenced by the Gestapo :rotfl:0 -
Why not get your own domain name xxx.co.uk and then redirect it to your free webspace, using masking (ie does not show the ip webspace address in the web address bar, but may be seen on links.
I use UKREG, cheap .CO.UK for 2 years (£5.90 +vat for 2 years co uk registration), and you can have e-mail forwarding as well. e-mail and web forwarding is free.0 -
Thanks everyone you really got me thinking. I wasn't bothered by an actual domain name but I have been looking into it and I can either get my domain name for two years £5.98 .co.uk or I've found it with a .co.cc address for free for one year! I've not heard of .cc before is there any reason I shouldn't go with that?
Also are domain sellers likely to up the price for the next two years and what would the .cc be likely to be after a year? I wonder if they can sell your name on if it proves to be a popular one?
For the time being I looked at another recent thread which had received the suggestion of x10hosting for the webspace, I'm fine about adverts if I am in control (geocities had a huge side frame ad that you could click to minimize but was very annoying to be honest so anything smaller than that is fine). The good thing is I can close the account anytime if there are any problems
Thanks everyone :jIAAR/IAAMM/MFTMFAQ/IOA6BH0 -
.cc is the top-level domain Cocos (Keeling) Islands. No reason you can't have it, but .co.uk looks far more professional IMO. Depends what you want it for... Plenty of webhosts will offer .co.uk free for a year on hosting or even free hosting, but then you'll have to pay later, better to select and pay with a good host to start with IMO, the recommendation of www.123-reg.co.uk is a good one, a fiver for 2 years, can't say fairer than that.0

Thanks isofa
It's actually a personal website but it's to do with a hobby I share with other users on another forum I go to. I really easy to remember domain address would be nice (and definitely an improvement on my isp webspace address). So I don't mind about professionalism, so long as my mates remember the .cc bit lol.IAAR/IAAMM/MFTMFAQ/IOA6BH0
