We are buying our first house. We are currently renting and the bedroom has fitted wardrobes, so we are going to need to buy all new furniture for the bedroom (we have the bed).. we dont have tons of money, so what would you go for...

Personally even though our bedroom is quite large we went for seperates as they can be moved about if we want to change the layout at all.
Also comparing prices between shops we were amazed to find we could get handmade from scratch, built exactly as we wanted it for less than shops wanted.
For example we choose a bed frame, 2 bedside tables and 2 large sets of drawers. AHF wanted roughly £1200.
A friend recommended this guy who had made his dining room furniture and he made the whole lot for under £1000.
Its worth checking out these guys who make from scratch as you can be pleasantly surprised.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Personally, I feel there are pros and cons of both fitted and free standing furniture, you need to base your decision on how you want it to look.
As shelly said above, I would definitely go see a few independents, as not only can they be better quality than what you get from the chains, they can often be cheaper and more customisable...
What ever you do, DON'T TOUCH SHARPES WITH A BARGE POLE!!!
I used to work for an independent and a chain, so if you get some quotes and need some advice, give me a shout...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I got all new furniture for my bedroom last year - after having the same range since the early 80's!
I looked round a lot of places - decided against fitted and ended up going to Cousins (Midlands firm) got a huge triple wardrobe, bedside cupboard, 2 large chest of drawers and a tallboy cupboard for about £700 in the sale (that is still on now)
I did have to pay them to put it together as It was flat pack - managed to talk them into making most of it up at the warehouse then they came round to assemble the wardrobe, I think it is cheaper if you get a local handyperson to put the furniture together unless you are ok with flatpack assembly (Im not!)
I have noticed that there are several more bargin furniture shops round by us that have some very good quality ranges in - but they often only have 1 of a range not loads - if you are on a tight budget might be worth a look? Seen whole ranges for £400 in these places including free assembly.
Friends went to Ikea but their bedroom furniture cost over £1200 from there. Not been to know prices.
Hope you find some nice furniture.Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

What about a decent fitted wardrobe, then separates for the rest?
I got a 2 door one fitted (done very well, with substantial wood framed runners etc) for £750. They have much more space inside that a stand alone wardrobe that would take up about the same space. Gives you room to maybe store towels etc too as well as clothes.0 -
thanks for the replies, we will probably go for seperates as if we do move we can take them with us and not have to buy them all again and we can move them round, as you said...
I have found a companay that will do 2 x 2 door wardrobes, a 4-drawer chest, blanket box and i put on a sideboard for the living room for £1200. it all solid wood, waxed pine and looks nice in the pictures...

Had a quick look...very nice! I like it.
Don't know if you noticed the following on the link you posted..... 1495 DIY POINTS each (Worth £14.95 off your next order)
Could be an idea to break your order down into 2 or 3 orders to gain these DIY points and get money off the other bits you want.
If you already thought of this....ignore me

I have seperates, but will go for this next time.
You know those doors that you open & have all the fancy compartments inside (I think Ikea do a good range).

I love those fitted wardrobes, but not the whole Sharpe fitted bedroom look, very 1980s.0 -

the range of furniture you are looking at is a very nice range its called the santa fe range, the only problem you will have you mentioned that if you moved you would like to take them with you? The wardrobes you will not be able to dismantle them once they are built. You will also need some time spare to assembly it all bedsides on average an hour each chest of drawer 2 hours. Any questions on the Sana Fe range drop me a PM0 -

I like the ones you've chosen, but another company that might be worth having a look at is furniture123. I'm pretty sure that they have a similar range, but not sure on prices. If it's a similar price you can also get 6% cashback through quidco plus an extra 5% off with a code on the quidco link page (until December )0
