First time at Wimbledon - any moneysaving tips?

Hi everyone,

I'm off to Wimbledon in a few weeks for the first time. Can anyone offer any tips etc on how to make the day memorable as economically as poss?

Are food and drink allowed in or does everything have to be bought there?

Many thanks in advance

    hi
i went a couple of years ago with my sisters- it as fab! we took our own food and champagne and plastic champagne flutes! in a freezer bag - we just bought some nice salads and crusty bread from marks and a punnet of strawberrys and cream too although we did buy some there as well. we had a jug of pimms later in the evening and on the whole i didn't think the prices were too bad. it would have been expensive if we had bought everything there though as we were there for about 6 - 7 hours in total - and we were lucky enough to bag a picnic bench overlooking the big screen at lunchtime.

the whole experience is great and for some reason it made you feel proud to be english - the whole place is so clean and pristine

i hope you have a great time and the weather is good - we were really lucky with the sunshine and it was difficult to find a place in the shade when it got too hot so make sure you take your sun cream x

just to let you know i don't think you can take corkscrews in so you have to be able to push or twist the top off your drinks - also i don't think you can take a knife to cut your bread, so might need to get some plastic cutlery - take a picnic rug as well just in case you cant find a table to sit at - also lots of the ball boys are not boys at all they are really handsome young men in their early twenties so a nice bit of eye candy too - wish i was going i'm sure you'll have a great time - might be more info on their website if they've got one

just had a look at website you can take one bottle of wine per person and you must take a cool bag not a cool box with hard sides
  • Be aware though, the space you have to put the coolbags by your feet is very limited.

Think football/rugby seating, it is the same for tennis. So don't go packing up masses of food and drink to take with you.

We normally just pack up sandwiches, fruit and bottles of water, in a small bag, which can fit between our legs without cramping.

The strawberries and pimms tent is a must to make the experience, so you don't really need to take any more alcohol in with you, or indeed food, there is plenty there, the prices not too bad either.

Have fun, remember a fold away rain coat, not really suitable for umbrellas!

If you can, walk from the Southfields tube station to the entrance (It's only about a 10 minute walk) - Not only will you save money on getting the bus or a taxi but there are usually people handing out freebies (e.g. Krispy Kreme doughnuts, cereal bars) along the walk to Wimbledon!

The best thing to do is to make your way to Henman's Hill as soon as you get in. I've been twice, once with debenture tickets for centre court (which was wonderful) and once by queueing in the early morning (which was even better).

We wandered up to Henman's Hill with our coolbag (containing bottle of pimms and bottle of lemonade and sandwiches) and sat down at one of the table and chairs on top. The next hour saw the hill fill up and we realised how lucky we were to get a seat and a table! We took it in turns to go watch games on the side courts, but when it came to important games we had prime position on the hill, where the atmosphere was just brilliant. Much better than when we had tickets for centre court as we found the heat was just too much in that prime location! On really hot days loads of people will leave centre court for exactly that reason.

Henman's hill is just the place to spend your day. :D
