Hello all,
The renewal for the buildings insurance with Legal & General for my parents house has come through and i'm sure i can get it cheaper.
Indeed i have got it cheaper but my dad is saying that Legal & General are recommended by their mortgage lender Birmingham Midshires and is not sure whether we can insure with just anyone.
So do we have to renew with Legal & General or can i keep searching for cheaper quotes?
or
Does anyone know which other insurance companies Birmingham Midshires recommends you insure with.
Mark.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the mortgage lender can insist that you have insurance with any particular lender. However, many want to be sure that any alternative cover you arrange is "like for like" and not inferior.
You really should speak to Bham Midshires and see what their particular criteria are.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
You can Insure your home with anyone you like as long as it covers certain perils which they all basically do anyway.
You may find Birm Mid want you to note on the policy that your mortgage is with them and some mortgage companies have the cheek to charge you £25 to "Inspect" your policy if you do not insure with them. Some Insurers will refund the £25.0 -
Thank you both for the advice.
I shall take into account what you both have said when we take out the insurance..0
