Try buying a rice cooker mine was £9.99 from Argos, perfect rice every time, no strirring, no standing over it.

I agree with steaming the rice rather than boiling - it's stirring rice that releases starch and makes it sticky. You will also find that basmati rice does not go as sticky as standard long grain rice.

If you don't have a rice cooker steaming can be done in a saucepan: heat the pan on a fairly high heat and add the rice by volume (measured in a jug not weighed). Add exactly double the amount of boiling water from the kettle, stir ONCE, put on the lid and immediately turn the hob down to the lowest setting. Do not remove the lid at any point during the 15 minute cooking time (longer for brown rice). Once cooked still do not stir, just swap the lid for a tea towel for a few minutes.

can't steam it for rice and peas as you put coconut milk and kidney beans in as the OP says. Mine went down very well this afternoon!

You want to use any brand of "easy-cook" rice...it's prepared in such a way it won't go sticky. Don't use ordinary long grain.

I would just reduce the amount of liquid (less coconut milk, less water) and reduce the cooking time accordingly so that it doesn't overcook once the fluid has been absorbed.
