alternatives to baby wipes- what do you use?

Options
my LO is two weeks old and already i have noticed that when i use conventional baby wipes his bottom gets red but when i use cotton wool and plain water its settles down. the only thing is when i am out and about, water isnt always available so i was wondering what others use in this situation.
"it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time. :D

I dont think it would be much of a problem to carry a small bottle of boiled water and
cotton wool.theres nothing worse than a sore red bottom for a babe

    Hi

I use reusable wipes (fleece or similar one side and terry/hemp on the other) When out and about, I use a small bottle with a spray top, squirt onto the wipe and clean bottom. The bottles cost around 75p. You can also put a drop of tea tree oil in the water to add some fragrance to the water..

Another vote for reusable wipes - either fleece or towelling cut to fit in a Tupperware container. Make up some chamomile tea, add a spoonful of oil/moisturiser & a couple of drops of lavender and pour over the wipes.
One box of wipes all ready to use!

in my day, 18 years ago precisely, being green wasn't v popular. we did the above soaked cotton pads. whenever we were out of the house. also, we made our own nappies from terry towelling too.. i miss seeing them on the washing line... swaying to and fro in the wind!!

my only child is leaving home for uni at the end of the month and i'm v sad to see her go!
  • I used old flannel and used to carry a small bottle (an old vitamin and mineral supplement bottle was ideal) with a mix of witch hazel, sunflower oil and lavender essential oil - the witch hazel helped to cut the grease from any horrible poos, the sunflower oil was moisturising and the lavender oil just smelled better than poo LOL!
  • Flannel kept in a resealable plastic bag. Johnsons baby wipes are the gentlest, but they cost a fortune and aren't exactly eco friendly. A flannel is, however, and the one plastic bag does less harm than a hundred plastic wipes packets over the next few years.

  • In the olden days, I used to use good quality tissues in a handy pack and some baby lotion squirted on it, keeping a small bottle in my handbag decanted from a regular sized bottle.

Just moisten the cotton wool as you normally would, but then put them in a ziplock bag and take them with you.

You could try https://www.cheekywipes.com - I gave some to a green friend as a new baby gift and she loves them!
