well i recently signed up for a blockbuster free trial we've received 9 dvds so far and ye none of them have been any newer than 5 years old we have a couple of new releases at the top of the list however never seem to get them and the dvds we do get are hardly playable!!!

its a shame really as we would have been happy to stay with them but they just dont seem to wan to keep us as customers :mad:

We've been quite lucky in that we have had a good selection about half of them from the top of our list (had 20 so far).

But, like you, about 60% of them have had glitches, some of them have been unplayable in places - lost 10 minutes on the last one seen.

It's hardly surprising as most of the discs have been very dirty and very scratched. It's put us off postal dvd rental to be honest.

Can I give you a tip of mine... if the disc doesnt play.. wash it in warm soapy water, and pat dry with a clean cloth..............Works every time angel........

We actually tried that on the last one and, although it played a little better, we still lost 10 minutes of the film - that's how bad some of the Blockbuster discs are.

I think blockbuster's dvds have gotten worse since they stopped using plastic cases to holds the discs and started using card ones

we tried cleaning one of the disks with water, a cd cleaning kit and various methods and still no joy

and we're still stuck with old dvds :mad:

We had their 14 day free trial - and we lasted 9 days. We had 6 discs and not one played correctly. (Yes we use soapy water too!)

The last one (a Barbie film) was covered in weetabix.

Made a complaint and they didn't even acknowledge it - just a routine email, sorry to see you go type of thing.

Of all the DVD services we have used, I would not recommend this one at all.

i had the two month rental had 20-30 dvd's and they were all fine!, all from the top half of my list bar two and it was a fantastic service

Just cancelled my free trial.

Not really complaining as I got about 28 free DVDs during the 2 months (and hopefully £15 from quidco!) but I've been put off DVD rental by post because of it.

Half of the dvds we were sent had bad glitches - some only glitched in one or two places and some were totally unwatchable in places (despite cleaning the discs).

I suppose its a bit tricky for any postal rental company. Each disc probably gets sent out much more than at a local store. Those cardboard wallets can't help and some people still fail to handle CDs / DVDs properly.

It's a pity DVDs don't come in a protective container that goes straight into the machine.
