Receipts and loose, weighed goods

Is there any requirement for receipts to show the weight as well as the cost of an item? Or is a list of naked prices acceptable? Is detailed info only required for prepacked variably-sized packs? Local fruit and veg shop has just changed tills and it is now nigh impossible to check if there are mistakes.
They now supply:
Veg .80
Veg .64
Prod .25
I don't mind the lack of individual names for different vegetables (that happened before) but the lack of weight and price per kg info makes things difficult.

Well, considering it isn't a legal requirement for the retailer to give a receipt in the first place, if they do give you a receipt, they can put whatever details they want on it...

I know a receipt is not required. I do not think it follows, however, that when an itemised receipt is presented that there are not separate standards that should be adhered to.0

You do? Oh, well in that case you should have known the answer to your own question. How can there be a requirement for something that isn't required...I do not think it follows, however, that when an itemised receipt is presented that there are not separate standards that should be adhered to.
So what you're saying is, the law should be changed to "You don't have to give a receipt, but if you do, it has to conform to these standards"
That's also like saying, "You don't have to sell string, but if you do, each piece has to be 2.51m long"
Just be thankful the receipt you got didn't just say "goods = x amount" instead of being itemised...
And surely, if you are being that picky about what the receipt should say, you are also working out the prices of what you are buying as you go along, as each item will have a price per kg/lb so you can keep track. This can then be totalled up and matched against the price on the receipt...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

OP, I can understand where you are coming from - this is an MSE board after all! Bought 1 orange from Sainsburys which should have been 27p per orange, checked receipt and was charged in weight for clementines - 64p. So went to CS and got difference back. So yeah, I can see why you would want to make sure you are being charged the right amount per kg for each product. Pity there aren't any standards for receipts really.:A kimmi_b0
