What car would you get for about 4-5k?

Hi all,

I am starting to think I would like a new car. Currently we have a ford fiesta 1.2 (2002, 27,000 miles on the clock). This car has been fine for us, but now I am getting a bit older I would like something a bit newer and more comfortable.

We use the car mainly at weekends and often drive the 500 miles round trip to see our parents.

I dont know where to start really. I quite like the new ford focus shape but think they will probably be too expensive?
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)

Is there anything wrong with you car as I really wouldn't bother replacing it. I drive an 11 year old e36 with 81k on the clock and think "ahhh it would be nice to have something newer" but I can't justify it for the mileage I do and this car has never let me down in over 4 years.

Think about it as if yours is working fine you could end up with an expensive piece of cr4p costing you more in mechanics bills

That's my advice anyways but if you are still looking for something always check out http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/home/index.htm for reviews on cars.

Same here. I'm a really MSE'er. I drive a 17 year old car with 95k on it and its bomb proof. Am i bothered...? Look at my face, look at my face...ROTFL

Depends on how much newer you are wanting. You could probably get a larger, more comfortable car a few years newer for around £5,000.

If you are not looking for something much bigger, I would stick to what you have - a well maintained 2002 fiesta with only 27,000 miles on clock has plenty of life left in it.

You won't get the newer shape Focus for that price unless you buy private. I think the newer shape started at a 55 plate and you are probably talking around the £5.5k mark for a 1.6 LX or something like that.

Have a look on the Arnold Clark website to get an idea of prices, you don't have to buy from there of course but it gives you an idea off what to pay.
