Halifax total nightmare

Hello,
I have been banking with Halifax for a couple of years. I have a current account which I hardly used. The account was purely used to transfer funds (25 pounds) onto another Halifax account (high interest one).....about 2 months ago I asked Halifax (via letter) to stop the transfer as I decided not to use the facility anymore (and hence I stopped to pay the 25 pounds into the current account). Apparently halifax never received my cancellation letter and hence transferred 25 pounds from one Halifax account to Another....result my account was 25 pounds overdrown. Halifax applied about 60 pounds in charges to that account, when I complained I was told that they did send me a letter to let me know and they confirmed that the letter WAS sent to my home address (bit puzzled as I have a paper free account anyway....)to make things worst, I did pay the charges etc as I did not want to have the account in debit. I just logged back on to the account and they applied 6 pence (yes 6 pence in interest) as a result ........I have found out that they will charge me another 28 pounds for having gone overdrown! Basically all together I would have charges of about 120 pounds in charges for having gone overdorown for 25 pounds (and those 25 pounds were from one Halifax account onto another). What can I do to recoup the charges? As they said that they are not willing to refund anything! (and they refused to aknowledge that they ever received a letter with the cancellation instruction from myself)

Did you not post the letter on recorded delivery. This is so important. If you have proof of postage, file a complaint with the FOS.
As for the letter they claim to have sent you, can they really prove it was posted to your home address, seeing that you have paper free account?
If Halifax claim you received their letter; then they received yours. They're just trying it on.0
