arrrg paypal have restricted my account

I have sold some tickets to shows recently and also many other items I have won in competitions.
Yesterday I withdrew £150 and then last night I won £300 on Bingo which I withdrew this morning.
About an hour ago it seems paypal and ebay have restricted my account, want proof of who I am and invoices to prove I own the stuff I've been selling!
I have provided all indentification they requested but as most of the stuff I have sold are comp wins - I dont have invoices!
I am really frustrated, I phoned customer services and they were a bit too reasurring, telling me that it should be sorted in 72 hours.
After reading some threads on this forum, I am really scared that they are going to screw me over - I have over £480 sitting in the account!

Is your account verifiied? If not, there's an annual withdrawal limit (£1,700, I think), if you go over it you get blocked until you prove who you are. Basically, they need to confirm your address. They'll post a number to you, you tap that number into your account verification... bit and it's sorted. They say it's to do with anti money-laundering rules, but that's !!!!!!!!. They've got no legal right to hold your money, and if you tell them that you'll seek legal advice it might speed the process up a bit. Good luckBack on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Give them 72 hours and then chase them up. Paypal often attempt to use lack of proof of inventory as an excuse to implement their 180 hold clause on users funds.
Hopefully they won't try this with you but keep at them, post back here after 72 hours have passed and let us know if the hold was lifted, hopefully it will have been but if not i'll advise you on how best to approach them to release your money.0 -
paypal have totally !!!!ed me over. They are now saying my account is associated with another and wont give me my money. I am absolutely gutted.
Now I have a useless ebay account which is restricted, a useless paypal account with all my money in it and a load of items that I have nowhere else to sell them.
Paypal and ebay seem to think they are God.0 -
Have you got any association with a suspended account?
It doesn't have to be yours, a partner, child or even someone with a similar name or address will do it. If you can find out which they think you are associated with you can start jumping up and down on paypal..I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I just had a thought , ages ago I read a thread possibly on the gambling board about someone who had problems with paypal after joining a bingo site. The bank card had been registered already with a bingo account and was picked up as the same person via paypal, thus breaking the two IDs rule on the gambling site.
I seem to recall it got awfully messy, but I can't remember how it got resolved. Could it be something to do with that?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Paypal will often freeze a users money if they have a slightest inclination that you might be the long lost great aunt of your next door neighbours best friends dog.
In other words if they think there is a 1million to one chance you’re related that is good enough for them.
The strange thing is i thought that to be related there had to be some genetic link but paypal think that people are related if they share ip details.or a computer
if the account in question is one of your own, you may have a problem if you have no idea what account paypal are talking about or you do know but it belongs to a totally different (even if related) grown adult of sound mind and conscience then just tell paypal in no uncertain terms that unless they stop pr1cking around with your money and return it to you, the rightful legal owner, then you will proceed straight to the county court and issue a claim for your funds to be returned plus court costs and interest.
i hear this one time and time again in different forums and have experienced it myself, ebay said my account was frozen because it was linked to another account that owed them money, but they couldn't tell me the details of the account, how did they expect me to look into it? what's more they said there was no time limit on holding my money as it would not be released until the other account was restored.
it was so ludicrous, paypal were basically stealing my money, i was not associated with any other account, so i just hit them straight away with a county court claim, what else could i do? They were saying i had to "restore" an account i had no connection with or i wouldn't get my money back, well i knew if they wanted to pull that crap in court they would have to prove an association and i knew none existed. What Amazed me is that they conceded the case without going to court and returned my money, why would they do that if they were sure i owed them money?
How much must paypal make from pulling this stunt were people, frustrated and scared to take court action against a huge corporation just walk away from funds and cut their losses? especially where the funds in the account are less than £100?
According to Wikipedia paypal has 73million active accounts, if just 1% of their users gave up on this type of account freeze averaging a loss of £100 that would make paypal £73million a year.
it angers me to see this kind of thing happening where huge corporations are exploiting consumers, just demand your money back and if you don't get it file a county court claim.
Best of luck.0
