Accountants asking for money i've already paid!

Hello,

My car was damaged back in 2005 and it was repaired by a local garage as it was all covered by my insurance company. I have just recieved a letter from an accountancy firm asking me to pay £325 as this is an outstanding debt from 2005, it seems the garage I had my car repaired at has gone bust. The £325 was my excess which I paid the garage back in 2005. Luckily I have the invoice which has written on it how and when I paid this money and it is also signed. Im going to phone the accountants on Monday as it seems they have no record of me paying this money. Is there anything I should or should not do in this situation?

Any advice welcome

Many Thanks,

Glyn

sounds like a case of the administrators going in blind and ringing anybody asking them for money

they obviously do have records of some sort as they know how much you payed

so they either do know you payed and are being dodgy or they dont know if you did or not and are being cheeky and trying their luck on everyone hoping they cant prove payment in which case their in luck

terrible practice but i know from experience it happens
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Or the payment went in the owners back pocket which could explain why the garage has gone bankrupt and the accountants can't see the payment as received

Yes that did cross my mind since it was my insurance excess I paid and it was in cash.

If it shows the payment received on the invoice you should be ok, anyone in the know would be aware that a garage never ever releases a car without getting the excess paid by someone.
