Hi All,
Me again - the computer illiterate numbskull.
I would like to read some XLS files, but don't seem able to.
When I press on them I get a microsoft thingy comes up to download a programme that would allow me to, yet although it runs for ages, I still appear unable to open these files.
Does anyone have any ABC help for me who is rather thick when it comes to anything techie wise.
Please be gentle with me.

XLS is an excel spreadsheet document. For Office upto 2003. You will need Microsoft Office to read it.
Alternativley, if you have a gmail account you can send it to yourself and they have a built in file reader that will read it.
Or instead of paying ££££ for MS Office, you can download open office:
http://www.openoffice.org/
Which is effectivley a cheaper/lightweight version of real office but will let you open your file.

You could try Microsoft's own XLS viewer, just Google "XLS viewer" which is Microsoft's free XLS viewer. You can only view and print your document though0

Thanks all.
I have emailed it to the email address given to me by google docs, but when I click on the thing I get a blank file.
I told you I was dense.
I'll have a lie down & attempt to fathom it out later when my head doesn't feel it's going to implode.
These things make my head hurt.
Thanks all for getting me this far.0 -
Are you sure that there was something in the file in the first place?
Maybe it is just a blank file.
If it opens up and shows the standard spreadsheet format with no entries in the cells, then it is probably a blank file.0 -
It opens up & shows a new document type page - blank.
I think I haven't sussed it out properly.0
