The pressure drop indicates a fault or a leak

You have topped the boiler up but the bubbling sound is the boiler kettling. You have air trapped in the heat exchanger.

Cant remember fully about the isars as its been a while since i fitted/repaired one but it may have a release vent at the top of the boiler case near the flue. Otherwise its take the cover off and vent manually but as it means removal of the front cover and breaking the combustion seal unless your gas safe then officially you are not allowed to remove

Would this cause water to flow out of the pipe that goes outside? as we think thats what the sound is. thanks

The safety valve will not make a kettling noise

Get it checked out by a proffessional as the Isar is a problamatic boiler at the best of times

hi worked on these quite a bit and it seems to be a quite common problem with them now each time when this has happened it was the big red expansion vessle at the back of the boiler i tried re presurising them to no avail u will proberbly have to get a new one of those plus if the saftey relief valve is blowing of outside u might have to get another one of those cause they dont really reseat them selfs on these models so will always blow of even when the expansion vessel is renewed
i think your looking at about 120 for expansion vessel may be 20 quid for blowoff valve dont know how much gas fitters will charge near you but should only take about 2 hours to fix

Thanks for all the replies, I'm very grateful, turns out though it wasn't the boiler at all there was a leak on the mains outside in the street, water people came and fixed it hey presto no more noises! thank goodness it wasn't the boiler! :j
