making good the wall channels after cabling, problems, help

Hi, I have channeled the walls, for running cables for sockets and some are lath and plaster but many are brick/stone etc and many have lining paper on them, so they look like they will be awkward to try and fill to lose the channels so that you cannot see them after painting.

I see Polycell do a range of things to deal with bad walls etc so not sure if that would help.

So what is the best way to lose the channels so that you can not see them afterwards apart from having every room replastered.

Any advice appreciated

Lining paper that wall or just use filler and very fine sand paper to get the best you can.

Ive had some channels for electrics put in not so long ago, I used wilko bog standard filler, not the ready made stuff but the powder. The key is to layer it in a bit at a time as you won't be able to fill it all in one go. Once you're at the top layer its fairly easy to put it in and smooth it off with something like a wall paper stripper.

Then as you've got lining paper up, you could strip the rest of the affected panel off and once you've filled the hole put a new strip over it. It'll probably need the whole wall repainting but its cheaper than replastering.

    HTH's.

    Why are you channeling lath?

Because there are 2 horizontal timbers that fill the void for some reason, and laying on top of this is about 6 inches or more of old plaster that has probably fallen from the inside of the wall from above. Had this not been there I would have run the cables inside the wall.

Do you think my reasoning was right to do it the way I have or would you have done it another way?

I find that Fine surface Polyfilla is pretty good.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
