Acer plant got waterlogged

Repot it into a pot with good drainage that isnt to big then put it undercover in the shade and forget about it. My Acer palmatum Butterfly had exactly the same problem last year. After doing the above it sprung back into life this year.
In my experience Location / Aspect is critical to the survival of Acers. To much Sun or Wind and they will not be happy but give them good drainage dappled shade and the occasional feed and they will thrive.

Yeah, take the leaves off - they'll drop off anyway.
Take it out of its pot and inspect the roots (you may need to wash away the soil). Trim away any rotten roots and treat it like a new bareroot plant if necessary. Have a look to see if there are any new nodes growing - if so prune back to a healthy node and repot with plenty of drainage. Seemingly dead trees do sometimes spring back to life!0
