Aluminium Frames...Any Value?

I am thinking of replacing aluminium windows for double glazing shortly, and as I am on a VERY tight budget was wondering if there was any value in the windows to be removed, they are in good condition with key locks, and if so where/how would I go about advertising them?
I realise its probably a very silly question, but there is no harm in asking is there?:p

It probably isn't worth your effort to even think about selling them.

Nobody wants aluminium frames these days & anyone thinking about replacing frames is going to go for uvpc or wood.

Best to ask the people who you get to do your double glazing to dispose of them for you.

Do you have a local paper that offeres free advertising? Whatever you decide to do, don't throw them away - Aluminium is recyclable, so your local scrap metal merchant will buy them from you by weight. 400kg of aluminium is currently worth £160.

As mentioned, they will have a scrap value as long as they are old non thermally broken frames.(These usually have a hardwood surround)

    How old are they roughly?

The modern thermally broken frames have a polyamide or resin "bridge" which seperates the outside frame from the inside thus preventing cold bridging.

If they are solid (you may not be able to tell until removed)they will have a reasonable scrap value.

If they are thermally broken it will reduce the scrap value due to the aggro of removing the thermal breaks etc.

Sorry, didn't realise they had a scrap value, I was just thinking they wouldn't have any value as 2nd hand window frames.

Nice for you if you can get a little something for them as scrap metal. :T

Anyone with a dead caravan rotting in their garden should consider dismantling it and carting it off to the scrappie. I just wanted the base to make a mobile platform for the chicken shed and the trip to the scrappie with the side and roof panels made it a well worth while bonus.

Thank you all for the advice:beer: I am glad I asked lol. I remember someone telling me to take my old copper boiler to the scrap yard and I got £14 for it.... that is what promted me to ask if aluminium also had a value.
