i have been trying to reclaim charges from lloyds tsb for 2 years. in total almost £2,500.... in 2004 i had a review with my bank manager and advised her i was going to be made redundant " dont worry", she said "consolidate your debts with a new loan and take out the insurance, we will pay your loan for a year". i was made redundant 32 days later, tried to claim the insurance and was told i couldnt but could repay my loan at the old rate... thats where it all started..my partner gave me a cheque each month to cover the bills, it would take 7 days in some instances to clear!!!!!! then the direct debits failed,, then the charges were applied...then interest was added...
i transferred all the direct debits to my partners account, so he could pay my bill for me direct.. i was overdrawn by over £2000 due to bank charges..
i then got pregnant and was unable to sign on for job seekers so my partner moved in..i struggled to manage and reduce my debt,, the charges had crippled me, my loan was not getting reduced and i had agreed a payment plan with the bank..refusing to reconsolidate
it`s now 2009 i have reduced my overdraft to £900, my loan is now £4.500 ish, i have been overdrawn for 5 years, i have 3 children who depend on me, i struggle to live and at times have no gas for heating or hot water, our diet is sometimes poor as we eat what we can,, i applied for hardship on that basis and was basically dismissed with a standard letter saying we will be in touch..
what can i do next??????????????? please help

I haven't got it quite as hard as yourself, but sympathise completely. I've had absolutely no luck claiming back from Lloyds TSB under the hardship rule. Same sort of standard letter and no headway. Took me forever to get a phone number for the right department and then they were rude and abrupt. Still no luck. From what I've seen on these forums, Lloyds TSB are the worst bank for getting charges back from. Sorry I can't be of any help, but i thought it may be some small consolation to know you are not the only one having problems with them0

Ok, let's see whether we can sort this out.
Firstly, loan with the bank(I am gonna ask someone I know who might be able to offer some advice on that one).
Have you got any priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities)?0 -

Hi Kaffy
I'm here to try and help you in regards of reclaiming PPI.
It looks as if you were "told you has to take the insurance to have for the loan" and this was not fully discussed with you, due to your circumstances, and your not fully eligible to make a claim anyway.
I would try to reclaim on the PPI, plus interest etc, as this was mis sold to you.
Now here below, check the link, there is further information on PPI mis selling, and template letters to help you through the reclaiming.
However, write your "own" reasons for why you believe you were mis sold, in your case you were told to "take out the insurance", but there may be many other reasons as well to add that may apply to you.

They have 8 weeks to respond in full.
Do not be disheartened if you receive the response which indicates that "you must have been aware" because you signed and so, this means nothing, with Lloyds they do also state that you would still be covered for "life cover, Hospitalisation and job solutions", but again you are NOT fully covered and still paying for something that is "worthless to you".
So if you do receive a response like the above, you just write back and tell them you stand by your reasons in your first letter dated XX/XX/XXXX, and you want this reconsidered, as you believe this cover is also worthless to you.
Also make them aware "you were sold the insurance with the loan, and when trying to make a claim it was unsuccessful", so you are paying out for an insurance which does not cover you, wait for the final response.
In the final response they give details of the financial ombudsman service (FOS) if you remain disatisfied with the outcome of the complaint you can then take your complaint to the FOS.
If this account is still active they may however, put you back in the postion as if you did not take out PPI, and refund you what you have paid with interest, or they may suggest to take out a new loan to pay for the existing loan without the PPI, but make sure if they do this, the rate is that of the same on the original loan or better.
Then of course you can still reclaim on the PPI.
There are various ways they deal with these complaints, but if you keep us posted every time you hear we can help you through this step by step.
Post all letters by recorded delivery to ensure they receive the reclaim letters.
And ask for help when required.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
