calculating reasonable cost for having to chase complaints

Hi

i have been looking through this site and having trouble establishing if there is anything on what are reasonable costs for chasing resolution of complaints where banks and building societies are concerned.

i have had problems with Abbey, and had to spent a great deal of time formulating and chasing my complaint about their poor service.

they have now partially accept that my complaint is valid. (although i believe all of my complaint is valid) and have made a ridiculous token gesture which doesnt cover the costs of all the calls made, letters produced and sent by recorded delivery, meetings held etc.

i am not accepting the offer made its too ridiculous however i do require reasonable redress. i think they made a stupid offer so that i could come back with a figure myself, but i dont know if there is a standard charge per letter, stationery use, travel costs. etc

i want to clearly show the amount i am asking for and why

does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Regards
