I've heard it's possible to register somehow with local council to get cheaper rented property? I can't seem to find any info, is this old news?

Thanks

    You mean council houses?
You should have registered in the 1950s and 1960s for those really.

If you are single then the current waiting list is probably 80 years.

Some councils are now doing assistied rent schemes, wherein you pay less than privately rented market rents. Check your local authority website or give the housing dept a ring.

Your local council should have a website that will direct you to the right spot for your housing queries. Failing that ring them.

Council housing, and housing associations work on a points system. You're given points for vulnerability, children, disability, that kind of thing.

If you're currently living somewhere adequate, and have no vulnerabilities then PasturesNew is right, it'll probably be about 80 years :D
