Two cars, two people, best insurance

Hello, I am female and have 1 years no claims bonus. My fella has 1 year's NCB for cars, although he has been riding a motorbike for 3 years or so. I own a car, insured in my name, and we added him onto my policy last year. The cost was extortionate, but we took it on the chin as it was necessary for him to share driving with me.
Now he has "inherited" his dad's car, and has insured it in his name only, again for the sake of expedience. The insurance on my car doesn't expire until August.
When we come to renew next year, can anyone suggest the best (ie cheapest) way for us both to be insured fully comp for both cars?
I realize I may not have given enough details here for you to help; please ask if I need to clarify anything.
Much appreciated.

I think you can only do it the way you suggest i.e. you each insure your own cars and add eachother as a named driver.
You may find some companies will look at the two separate policies together and view them as "one risk", but you must have two separate policies arranged as you have now.

Whilst it might have seemed expedient to insure in his name only, often insurers actually charge less to insure a couple than a single person - seems crazy, but true.
I think it's because couples tend to have less accidents than singles.
Previous advice holds though - 2 separate policies will nearly always be the best deal. Very few insurers charge less on a second vehicle and the ones which do are unlikely to be cheapest in any case.0 -
Thanks for the advice; sorry for the delay in replying.0

Try confused.com who search 20+ companies for the cheapest rate. For your other half I assume he no longer has the motor cycle. He should be able to get some allowance for extra NCD on the car by ringing H & R Insurance also known as Insurance 2000 in Aberdeen. They are one of the few places that can convert bike NCD into extra car NCD.

here's another slant. I am insured for my car, and to drive other peoples'. my wife is a named driver. She is insured for her car and to drive other peoples'. I am a named driver on her policy. Hang on, do we need to be named on eachothers' policies, and will we save money by changing this? Any advice gratefully received.0

Quite often it does not cost extra to have spouse or partner on the insurance policy. I have just renewed my insurance with Zurich and saved over £50 per car.

Here's one for the cynics:
Every night on tv (sky at least) you must be able to spot at least 25 ads for motor insurance.
It must be fantastic business if that many companies are willing to pay out that much to advertise them selves!
Are we all paying vastly too much to fund those ads?0 -
There are one or two insurers who let you insure a vehicle as long as it is owned by a partner living at the same address.
elephant.co.uk is one of these.
So my partners car is insured using my name as first driver (even though the car is registered in his name) in order to protect my larger no claims bonus now I have a company car.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
