OLDERNOTWISER: My wife cannot receive any financial help, unfortunately, but I will be going to the local benefits office this week to check for help for the son. It is unlikely that any help will be forthcoming, however thanks to all for your advice.
SANDRAROFFEY: I agree wholeheartedly with your belief that some payment from the employer would be helpful and welcome, but it seems that this is the hardship these teens have to endure. Quite a few have left the numerous course's at the skills centre where my son attends and ALL state that having no money for their decision. I think it's very sad and I hope your son found a profession which serves him well. Regret is an awfull thing to have but the at the time and his financial situation, he had to make this decision. It's always the same, we are ALL wiser after the event. Good luck to you all.....0 -
Hope you manage to sort something out and I hope your son keeps going with his course. I know it's painful having mo money, but in the long run I'm sure it'll be worth it. xBe happy, it's the greatest wealth

If your wife doesn't have a medical condition, can she not get a job?
If your son were doing an academic course you'd be in the same position as they're considered to still be dependent on parents at this age, which is why you receive CB/CTC for them. Young people need their parents' support and encouragement to invest in their future.
At your son's age, the Careers Service are the appropriate people to contact rather than the benefits office as he's obviously not eligible to claim any kind of benefit although he may be able to get further funding for his training.0
