Christopher Phin - deputy editor of Mac Format magazine - told the BBC that Mac users needed to be more aware of potential threats.
"I suspect we will see more creative and new ways of exploiting vulnerabilities on all formats and the greater Apple profile makes it more susceptible to being targeted," he said.

  • Yep, and there's another story that Mac users should stop be so confident that they'll never catch a virus. All related to the same story I suppose.

As a mac user you would have to go out of your way to let it in. Firstly you would need to allow scripts, then allow that one to run, then input a password against a warning...

But that's easily done seeing Mac users think they're invincible.

Folk - Macs are not invulnerable, and you are deluding yourself if you think they are.

As ever, the left handed websites are at the forefront of another advance of technology - the mac virus (Do you think the golden arches will have copyrighted McVirus already?).

As with most things, you need to be pretty careless to let it in but all the same, it's a worrying development

"As a Mac user I don't get viruses and malware, etc, I'm so cool"

^ Gonna put an end to that argument surely? :D

This is just a slightly different version of a piece of malware that was released years ago. I wasn't worried then, and I'm not worried now.

Anyone stupid enough to download (and give administrative access to) software from a !!!!!! site deserves whatever they get really.

i dont really see the plus of that

ive had 3 laptops over a period of 5 years with me as the exclusive user

andi have NEVER ever caught any virus, worm, keylogger, or trojan (that avira, superantispyware, malwarebytes and kaspersky online scanner were able to detect anyways) which must be like 99.9% of malware

just shows that the best protection is being clued up and always keeping your gaurd up

my friend had his mac infected with some sort of virus, had to take it into the apple store for advice

pc user 1: mac user 0:D
(i do realise that the real world stats would tell a different story but its a good example for this thread!)

But then consider how many times more PC's there are than Mac's! Maybe it isn't surprising. If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say that a very small percentage on PC's get viruses either, because there's bound to be millions that never get infected.
