Air conditioning re gassing problem??
Options
My air con was getting ready for re gassing so i thought i'd save a few quid an buy a DIY kit an do it myself as the instructions an the basis of it look straight forward.
I hooked it up with my air con on like it said (the gauge confirmed it was slightly under pressure) and put some gas in, then the air con started turning its self on and off??????
Now thats all it keeps doing, when i first turn it on it will run for a few minutes then go off, then every few seconds it will go on an off. If i put the pressure gauge on to check the pressure (air con must be running to give a reading) when it stays on long enough to give me a reading it gose down to the correct pressure before the air con turns off an the pressure gose right up again. I dont think the air con it stopping on ling enought to give me a true reading though.
Dose any one know whats gone wrong an what i can do now to get it working again????
Would appreciate any help thanks.
Simon.

if the aircon is going on and off on engine tickover I think that's normal. My car does this.0

it is normal.. it's the clutch in the A/C compressor engaging and then disengaging when it's got up to pressure.
Its never done that before it as all ways been on when on tickover.
But it is doing it when driving as well, i'll get a second of cold air the a few seconds off warm air an so on0 -
The a/c compressor shouldn't be running continuously but cut in and out like a fridge does.
However it shouldn't be cutting in and out rapidly either."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

now when i run the air con it's still doing as above but the compressor is making a really weird loud noise that can be herd when in the car and driving?
i'm wondering if something got in the system with the gas an done some damage or if its just a pressure problem with the gas??
anyone????????0 -
If the a/c is cyling rapidly, it sounds like you've possibly overgassed the system ... and now possibly caused further damage to the system by running it in an overgassed state.
Don't use the a/c and take the car to a professional to check the refrigerant charge level and also to check if any other damage has been caused."Now to trolling as a concept. .... The coolant must to be added into the system slowly, if it's introduced too quickly it can wreck it. Taking twenty minutes to top up is not an exaggeration.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

i agree with that - my ls was lately regassed and took 30 mins - icaanot comment on wether the OP has done anything wrong or not0 -
A proper re gas takes an hour as all the old gas is sucked out measured and the system checked by vacuum for leaks, then dried out, then refilled with the correct amount of gas and oil.
Remember to run your a/c for at least an hour each month as the oil that is mixed in is what lubricates the system and stops the rubber o rings drying out and cracking.I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.0
