Should I buy a 2nd hand bathroom suite

Hi,
I'm about to have a new bathroom fitted, and have been looking at a variety of suites/taps etc, and realising just how deep into my savings this endeavour is going to take me.
As I was nosing around on ebay, a secondhand villeroy and bosch bathroom suite caught my eye. So my question to you is...would you buy a second hand bathroom suite? If it was about 300 including taps etc. Bearing in mind a new one will end up costing twice/three times that.
And for the tradesmen out there - how would you react if a customer said they wanted to install a second hand bathroom suite? Is it a stupid idea?
Much appreciated one and all

Dismantling a suite could damage it it, I don't think that I would risk it but hopefully someone else will be along to advise.0

You might get one for free on freecycle I got my bathroom sink and toilet from my sister when she replaced hers and just purchased a bath.
I know my neighbour has just replaced his bathroom and there wasn't much wrong with it. Worth putting a wanted post on Freecycle or Netmums.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks for the responses. Its a specific suite I'm thinking about - rather than whatever freecycle might have to offer. It looks in very good shape, but I see your point about potential damage. Perhaps it is too pricey for a risk.
Much appreciated

as its collection in person obviously it depends upon how far away they are from you
personally, if you really want it, i would send them a message first saying you are interested in buying it subject to satisfactory viewing etc. any chips scratches marks you will see when you get there and you can then adjust your purchase price accordingly or walk away. i would imagine the taps are still attached to the bath/basin/bidet so as log as the pipes have just been cut to aid getting the items out, I can't see it being a huge problem
the only other thing i would say is that i think £200 is a bit optimistic on their part. it is 6 years old. £150 is better but that may be difficult when they have set £200 starting bid!0 -
Personally, getting a 2nd hand bathroom SOUNDS good but it can have its disadvantages - ie, it is sometimes pricey (even though it's used), you have to go and collect it or arrange delivery, then hope for the best. Most of the time, the warranty is expired and you can't be sure of the quality, really! A bit of a stab in the dark.
My best advice is to check out some of the online bathroom retailers. There's absolutely thousands out there in the UK and most offer free or subsidised delivery.
On Gumtree some time ago, I've seen bathroom suites for £150 or so (used!!!!!) and then I went to a site - bathroomtrade.co.uk and found a brand new suite (bath, basin, panels, toilet, toilet seat etc) for £210 including delivery (plus 10yr warranty). Go to the site and look under 'complete bathrooms'. It's the first one in the list.
It's a good deal and there are so many other sites like bathroom heaven and click bathrooms that do discounts too. I know Bathstore is doing a sale at the moment but I've also found them really pricey! Anyway, that's just my three cents! All the best!
