Hi wondered if anyone can advice.
My toshiba laptop had a problem with the power cable.. the problem is to the point almost exacttly as you plug it to the laptop.
if i twist it and move it it starts charging,
i bought a new cable from internet 2 days ok and then yesterday it went dead.
managed to turn it on again but the sign on the botom of the laptop that shows that is charging from 1 bar then going up, its not working.
the charging light its ok though
im loking to send it to pc world tech guys or something like this-
or should i buy a genuine power cable first see what hapens?
thanks

If you twist it or move it up and down does it charge the laptop? The connector inside the laptop that you attach the lead to are sometimes prone to breaking away from the motherboard especially when people use their laptops on an uneven surface like pillows or duvet as it pushes the connector upwards away from the board.
Also how old is the laptop?0 -
Thanks Diable, thats how i charge it at the moment, by twisting the cable and true , i use the laptop mainly in bed before i sleep.
went to pcword today for maybe a better power lead but f- that, 69 quid for a addaptor!
mine is 2 and half years old not worth spending 100-150 quid of repair on it i think.
but will get a genuine toshiba cable and see how it goes
what concerns me is the charging sign on the botom of the laptop some times showing some times not even though the charging light is on0 -
I wouldnt bother buying chargers. you need proper diagnosis. I lean toward the detached pcb /motherboard connection. Soldering iron required.0

Were i work i have been booking a lot of Toshiba's in this week with Toshiba under warranty repair (they will fix it if it's still under warranty) for the above fault, it has been a common fault with Toshiba lately and we have had a lot coming back with this fault from customers.
The connector in the laptop snaps of from the mainboard, and i don't think it's a easy fix with a soldering iron0 -
Don't take it to PCW for repair (and don't buy your spares there either). Take it to an independent laptop reapir shop and get a proper diagnosis. But sounds very much like the charging block is detaching from the mobo. If you're using it in bed with the mains lead plugged in then that's quite probably the cause-everytime it moves you are twisting the pin against the socket and the solder joint fails before long.
Buying a new adaptor is not going to achieve anything. Just get the output from the existing adaptor tested with a multimeter. if that's OK then most likely it's the charging block. Repair cost around £100.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
This is quite a common problem with a number of makes and models. The problem is actually twofold: First the connector plug wiring becomes loose and intermittent, then because of twisting and fiddling to try to restore power the socket on the machine starts to become dry jointed.
The cure is easy (for the technically capable). It involves stripping the laptop down and resoldering the joints of the power connector, or replacing it if it is too far gone, but it is also necessary to replace power cable, or solder a new connector onto the existing one.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0
