Acer Laptop Any good?

Hi,

I have been lookings around for a new laptop. I have Acer on PC World website:-

  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5800
  • (2 GHz, 800 MHz, 2MB Cache)
  • Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Basic
  • 4 GB Memory Size
  • 160 GB Hard Drive
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1979001102.1244828885@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfladehhkkfddjcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=466908&category_oid=

Good spec I though with large screan. Just need some advice - What do you think about the above? Are Acer any good?

Also can I buy this through PC World store?

Thanks
MSB

    yes they are good

and that is good value despite it being quite an ugly laptop lol

anyways, i would advise you to avoid pc world

    what is your budget?

and what will you use it for?

and is there anything it must have or that you would like?

EDIT: I do also want to say that it will be hard to get those specs for the same price anywhere else, i checked dell and they have an inspiron studio laptop with better specs in some places and worse in others
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

I'd be really worried about a computer seller which quotes such an amazingly fatuous set of 'Benefits', among which the howler that "Floppy disks are 3.5" square"!
Are you impressed by the statement about
the CPU Processor Speed: "The higher the number of Megahertz (MHZ) the faster the processor should be", and
the Hard Drive Capacity: "The bigger the capacity the more you can store"?!

My brother has one of these Acer laptops and it works fine. It also has Express Card slot. Does anyone know what these slots used for?

My son and I have the Acer 5735Z and are really pleased with them. we both paid around £370 at Tesco about a month ago and the same laptop at PC world was over £50 more expensive so compare the prices.

I like Acer laptops. I think they will do what most of us want them to do. That spec is pretty good too. I tend to try and avoid the big names brands like Dell and IBM as I dont like the amount of their own software they put on them before delivery

You should realise, when comparing the price with others, that this is a REFURBISHED laptop, not new.

The two disadvantages of this, as I see it are :

One of the problems with laptops is with the life of the battery - many laptops fail because the battery stops holding its charge. How far into its life has this battery reached?

    AND

The guarantee is with PC World with no fall-back on Acer if things go wrong - read the many threads on this board of adverse criticism about PC World's after-sales service.

Having said that, Acer products are generally very reliable, so you pays your money and takes your choice!

One of these laptops is good value too. Both HP with vista premium and intel core 2 duos.

'Only' 2gb ram, but if its for general internet use, dvd playback etc then its more than adequate. £359

4gb ram and a bigger HD but £399.
