Any French Lop owners here?

I am looking to get a french lop rabbit and I was just wondering what other peoples experiences of them are here and also how much they have cost you to get them neutured. My plan is to get a boy as I have always had better experiences with them. I have kept rabbits before but I really wanted a larger breed one this time and thats why I wanted to go for a french lop. Any insight would be lovely from you rabbit owners out there, thanks

  • Hi, I had a french lop up until 2 years ago and she died, she was a fiesty one though! I had a male french lop who I rescued and he was extremely docile and lovely natured. However, my girl lop, sylvan, she was with us from when I picked her as a baby, and she would attack my husband!!!!!

She and I had a mutual understanding and she was pretty good with me,but albeit a little grumpy at times, she was beautiful though.
She would chase my cat around the house and became a bully,so she had a large run built for her outside, she was better outside and seemed to like it more.

I have always kept rabbits and was lead to believe that lops were docile,I have'nt found this though and felt the nicest natured rabbit I had was a rex rabbit who was adorable.
  • What about a flemish giant or continental, have you seen the giant rabbit rescue centre, google it and check out the bunnies!!!!

You need at least a 6ft, preferably 8ft hutch & lots of room, they make great pets! If you want the number of someone who is very knowledgeable pls PM me

She was the sweetest, most loving rabbits ive ever had the pleasure to own. she was like a wee dog and would come when called.
Im not sure how much it is for neutering as i didnt have her done.
the kids adored her and i miss her everyday.

I don't have a giant myself but have hear good reports of them although I strongly belive that it's the individual rabbit that determines personality, rather than it being more breed specific like with dogs. Larger breeds also live shorter on average.

Neutering costs vary, my girl was about £55 to spay but boys tend to be cheaper. it varies from one vet to another but don't necessarily go with the cheapest - ask them questions to check they know what they're doing , do they neuter rabbits regularly, have they lost any under anaesthetic, what aftercare do they recommend.

Here is a database of rabbits in rescue - you can search by breed, so you could look for a french lop in need of a home and do a bunny a good turn. ;)

Also I would recommend you get a pair if possible, I can't begin to explain how much rabbits benefit from the company of their own kind. I had a single girl for ages and although she was happy and healthy, she's so much more contented know she has a companion. they snuggle up together all the time but are still really affectionate to me aswell. Here they are:

anyway, enjoy your new pet/s :)
