This is my first post, so please bear with me.

My gas usage for the period 24th feb to 27th may was 5608.73 kWh. We use gas for CH, HW and cooking.

My electricity usage for the same period was 1086 units.

Is this usage about right ?

I am a single parent with three children and we live in a three bed detached house about 15 years old. We have double glazing and the loft is insulated.

I rang up Scottish Hydro asking about the "social tariff" they have which is to help people on low incomes. I receive Disability living Allowance and Income Support and find it difficult paying my bills. There answer was i am not elligible because I am only using 7% of my income on bills as opposed to 10%.

More gas than us but I have been tight with the heating. About a kwh a day less than us for electricity.

Family of six (all 15 years +) in a three bed, poorly insulated house on three floors, with someone home all day. The 'kids' are all gadget fiends.

Your use seems reasonable to me. Not low but not excessively high either.

For the same period we used 850kwh of electric and 3300 kwh gas. I am a single parent with 3 kids in a 3 bed semi. Gas used for CH, HW and cooking. Electric shower used too much, tumble dryer pretty much unused. I am pretty careful and I make the kids put extra clothes on instead of putting the heating on. So I guess your usage isn't unreasonable.

If money is tight you could probably reduce your consumption of both without too much pain! Lots of advice on this website. Also make sure you are on the best tariff.
