Can I get a copy of a cheque I paid into my Barclays account?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help please?

I was given several cheques from one of my creditors and I paid them into my Barclays bank account.

I am in the process of serving some legal action on his company and my solicitor has requested that I get copies of these cheques to help my case (long story!)

I was wondering if Barclays do take microfiche or microfilm copies of all cheques, as I have come across some evidence on the internet that indicates that they do. However, my local business manager says it is not possible. I personally think she is just not being helpful to me.

Does anyone know if this is possible? There is a large amount of money at stake for me here, so I would like to do what I can!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes you can get copies of the cheques.
I'm not 100% sure if you can get them from your bank or the creditors bank.

My Mum got photocopies of a cheque she wrote out showing the account number written on the back. Bank had put money into wrong account. But I can't remember if she got them from Barclays (her bank) or Woolwich (account paid to). Bearing in mind this was back when they were not part of the same company.

Thanks for the reply. Barclays are saying that they can get me a copy of any cheque that I have written, but not of one that someone else has written to me.

Fastest way is to go get it from the bank the cheque is drawn on but barclays should be able to get a copy from their voucher processing centre but may take a while.

I can't remember from which bank the cheques had been written, so I guess I will just have to try to convince my business manager that this is possible. She keeps turning me away when I ask.

    Thanks for your help.

The payee bank won't give you a copy of their customers cheque to a third party.

I'm not sure your going to be able to get it as the payee bank will hold the cheque in their archive, so the only way to get it would be through the drawer/person/company who wrote the cheque for them to request it from their bank.

To the best of my knowledge, we can't. When I worked in Retail Bank Customer Relations, they changed everything around so that voucher retrievals - for cheques written and banker's drafts etc. - went through us, and I can't ever recall us being able to get the cheques back that went in to an account. Who knows, maybe I missed it?

If you can't remember the drawing bank, I'd visit the branch you paid the cheque in to and ask them to search their Proof of Deposit records for your deposit. They'll be able to find the full details of your deposit.
