Adhoc Call Charges from BT

I've been reviewing my BT bills and found that for October 2008, February 2009, April 2009 and May 2009 I have been charged for:
  • BT Together Option 1 - Charges for BT Answer 1571
  • Charge for BT Caller Display
I couldn't work out why the charges were so adhoc so I contacted BT and they very helpful and informed me that "These services are free, if you make at least 2 calls via BT per month" (I should point out we're with Sky Talk).

Anyway, my plan is now to try and make 2 calls a month via BT (using my free weekend plan) and the advisor said I should be able to do this by dialing 1480 before the call. He did say however that some companies block this so I will let you know how I get on!

The code is 1280 but that won't work if you use Sky Talk.

However, there is a workaround - see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=21516115#post21516115
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

When Anne says, "With the first hour of all local and national calls made from your line, 24/7, are free .It is most unlikely that anyone on this plan would be routing calls through another company. Therefore six inclusive calls per quarter will qualify for the free Caller Display", I think she means the six inclusive calls only count for those on the Unlimited Anytime Plan. The rest of us will have to phone, for example, an unmanned 0845 number in the evening during the week for a few seconds, to qualify, or face a one-off charge of £3.02 per month plus VAT for Caller Display and Charges for BT Answer 1571.

As far as i know if you are on Skytalk, you get the line rental for £10 per month
(cheaper than BT) also included are 1571 and caller display, its worth giving them a ring to check. Call them after 6 or at weekends and the 0844 no. is free because you have Skytalk.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
