Cleaning Gloss Wardrobe Doors?

Sorry, I wasn't sure which board to post this in...
I have black gloss wardrobe doors. (like these). They have started to get fingerprints on, and I was just wondering if anyone knew how to clean them?

I've been wiping them with a damp cloth, but it doesn't really get fingerprints out very well.

As they are made out of wood, I don't want to use anything that could damage them.. any ideas?

  • Fingerprint marks or actual dirt? If dirt, rub harder. As long as you don't use an abbrasive I'm sure they'll be fine.

A decent cloth is what you need. With our new gloss kitchen i've found a vileda window cloth and/or a microfibre cloth both work well (mirofibre gets rid of finger marks and smudges really well)

You've obviously never owned a black car, or you'd never have bought them. A cleaner's nightmare.
You need a mild solvent to remove the grease in fingerprints. water will not do it.
Most multi surface cleaners should be OK.

On my glossy black kitchen worktop, I wipe the surfaces with an antibacterial spray using a sponge type cloth. Then polish the whisp and stubborn fingerprints away using a microfibre cloth for glass surfaces.

Totally agree with the black car comment - they are a nightmare to keep clean!!

I have a black gloss TV unit and I use Glass & Surface Wipes from Asda.........only £1 a pack as well. They work very well and leave no smear marks. I also use them on the bathroom suite as well as leaves it so shiny (obviously not on the base of the bath as it would be too slippy).

The wipes look a bit smeary when wiping on, but leave it for a minute or two and they will dry clean and shiny.

Gorgeous wardrobes, but as you have found, a nightmare to keep clean.

I would use window cleaner, the spray stuff for mirrors and windows, much like what ecosse mentioned.

Its the buffing up that is the killer lol
  • Thanks for all the advice.

I have a black glass tv stand and coffee table, which get maked very easily, I just use window/glass spray, but didn't think it would work on black gloss, which is made of wood?
