I have an old Beehive, which my Dad gave me, and he treated it with one of those Decorative Wood Preserves ....
I want to paint it White, using Gloss paint or one of those Gloss type paints that are porous .... can this be done and if so, how should I go about it?

No it is not used for Bees, it is just a garden ornament
The thing is, that I always wanted it painted white, so I would like to paint over the wood treatment :-)0 -
i sanded a fire surround down and painted it with dulux egg shell white, looks good0

Sand it all down then give it a couple of coats of Sadolin Woodshield. It's self-priming and undercoating and is more flexible and breathable than traditional gloss paints. Waterbased too.0

after sanding make sure you brush the dust off before painting0

Completely agree with Noel80... if you're going to paint it white, avoid gloss. And if it's outside, you can't use Dulux Eggshell but you can use their acrylic gloss which is a water-based alternative suitable for exterior use.0
