Legal Protection on Car Insurance Quotes

Do people have a view on the value or otherwise of Legal Protection Insurance? It seems to add about £30 to the quotes and (here is what makes me suspicious) is something they push really hard. They only push insurance really hard when they’re pretty sure you’re never going to claim on it, I find.
As far as I can tell it is for me to get legal advice in the event of a collision that is not my fault. Well, I thought that it was usually up to the insurance companies to argue between themselves when blame is in question, and in any case, if I do need to take someone to court and it is found not to be my fault then I would expect to get my costs.
Has anyone ever used this? Does it add anything (other than cost?)
Cheers

They make a big margin on it, which is why they push it.
Not just advice, it's pays for legal cover. As far as I can tell it is for me to get legal advice in the event of a collision that is not my fault
So if you had to fight a company or take an individual to court then it will pay for solicitors to act for you, which is different from just getting advice.
Only for you "insured" losses.Well, I thought that it was usually up to the insurance companies to argue between themselves when blame is in question
There are things that are not insured e.g. time off work.
So the legal policy covers you "uninsured losses".
So if you were ill and needed time off work and it's someone else's fault, then your car insurer will not cover this for you as it's not part of your car insurance policy
Ok, so if you have £50K spare to put forward in legal fees whilst you're waiting for your refund and don't mind losing it if you lose, then don't get the insurance.and in any case, if I do need to take someone to court and it is found not to be my fault then I would expect to get my costs
Most people do not have this kind of cash sat round.
Yes I've used it before when I was injured.Has anyone ever used this? Does it add anything (other than cost?)
The solicitors fought for compensation for my injuries and I paid nothing.
It adds peace of mind but you don't have to have it.
You could chose to go no-win no fee but don't expect them to fight a small case or one where there is little chance of winning.
My FIL got a £120 excess back because he had legal cover. No-win no fee would not work in this case, but will work in soe, so it's an option to consider.
If you are interested then I can send you details of a family legal cover policy that covers all your cars & home but I can't give you advice on whether that's the best product for you.

I'm not sure where you get they only push it hard when they're pretty sure you're never going to claim on it from.
Legal Expenses recovers (Where possible) your uninsured losses (These are things your Insurer does not cover / will not claim back for you). These include your policy excess, alternative transport, injuries, loss of earnings, goods / contents of the vehicle that were damaged etc etc.
Insurers push this as they either get it for free or pay around £3 for it so its a good earner as well as being something that is valuable to you if you have a non fault claim.0
