I guess you have his full name and a telephone number now?
Google the telephone number and see what come sup.
Ring the nationwide HQ switchboard and ask for him if its a non common name, they will have an internal telephone directory/e-mail/contact system.
Is the number non-geographical? or does it look like any numbers the Nationwide use. The foreign card lost line usually gives away the area code a bank uses.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

I think its a mobile number he left on answer machine today as it begins with 07801. If thats any help.

I find this thread very strange.....we were having a bit of financial bother at the beginning of the year...we 'WENT' to the Nationwide and they helped us no end.....
I really don`t think he should`ve been knocking at your door...I am quite sure Nationwide wouldn`t do that....
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us that you haven`t given him any bank details....if he is genuine, which I very much doubt!!!!....he would have them already.....
My advice would be to inform the police and pass his details onto them.....or make an appointment so that this 'Nationwide' fella could meet at your house the same time the police do!!!!!......(camcorders at the ready!!!!!)

If Nationwide wanted to help us we wouldn't be in this mess now. They just keep saying they cannot help, we have tried every option asking them for help and they wont even offer us an appointment as they can see they canot help! I dont suppose it helps us either that we are in debt with them.
Hubby was with me at time he turned up and I think he gave out his account info as he was hoping to get help as well. I thought it was odd as he didnt ask for mine. Only paperwork he left with us was a 'customer survey' form which I was asked to return if I wanted to, I have not done so yet as its all seems more than a bit odd to me and I am worrying enough about debt as it is now without worrying about people knocking at my door.

I very much doubt that Nationwide would have anyone coming round to houses, they have those lovely offices and branches all over the place to invite people into if they wanted to chat with the computer records.
I'd say he was probably from a nationwide firm of debt buyers or a nationwide firm of "loans are unenforceable give us £500 to look at it".

Ah! He did leave a business card, it says his full name that he is an account manager his mobile phone number and fax number and the and it has the address of Field Operations Support based in Northampton! So not local to me I am in West Sussex.
The questionaire is a 'customer satisfaction' which consists of 1 side of A4 paper which has my name and account number scrawled at the top and is returnble tothe man who visited us but there is no return address to foward it to and no envelope was supplied. :mad: Theres a bit on the bottom of business card think its just a disclaimer but it reads 'Nationwide Building Society is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority for life assurance, pensions, unit trusts, insurance and regulated mortgages.' Nothing about Credit Cards or accounts.
So why go to all the trouble and travel a distance to come and see me without making sure I would be home first?

This does not necessarily mean he comes from Narthampton, the offices are based in Northampton, he may only visit the office amybe once a fortnight.....(I know this because my partner does the same, different industry though).

I would definitely ring the Nationwide H/O...you will find the number on their webpage under contact us.....(complaints/procedures) You only need them to confirm who he is and where he`s from and they will tell you...failing that, I would happily go my own branch of Nationwide and enquire for you...I get on really well with the girls in our branch, mind you we do live in a smallish village and we are neighbours too;)....but the offer is there if you want it....
Plz do PM me if you would like me to do this as I`d need his details.....
