Can the bank do this?

Ok, so i have been getting one charge a month off of Abbey. It started out as i didnt have enough money in the bank, so come next month they take the charge out but that makes me go overdrawn, so next month i get another charge, and so on and so on.
Anyways, i made sure there was enough money in account this month so i wouldnt go overdrawm for the charge that came out, and then i can stop getting charged for there charges! I receive my monthly statement and on the charges bit it says
...Charge...£35 for unpaid Direct Debit....date 21th Jan 2009.....date charge will be taken...26th of June 2009
Umm can they take a charge which is 6 months old?? Surely that was an error on their behalf to not take it out at the correct time?
I am going to go into the bank and have a word with them, but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this as well.

Yes - it might have been an error. Or maybe they let you off the first time, but now that you have made a habit of it decided they were too lenient then.

What makes you think that errors cannot be corrected BTW? If it were the other way round would you think the same?
