Alliance & Leicester £100...NOT

A & L were offering £100 pounds to transfer your current account! one of the conditions was you must use their "hassle free" switching service. To cut a long story short, the new account was opened very quickly, but 6 weeks later, Guess What?, thats right! nothing switched. At this point A & L inform me that they didn't get the switching instruction. Amazing really as the switching instruction was a large part of the online application form. Because nothing had been switched including my salary, the account wasn't funded within a certain time limit.
Hence NO £100 (any excuse, me thinks)
Has this happened to any body else?

Yes..last year both DH and I opened separate accounts and switched from money from 1 to the other, they used this as and excuse not to give us the £100.00 even though at the point of opening the account the clerk said it would be fine.0

you would have got a form through to post for switching too. if you did not fill this in and send back (sign it) then no switching happensKavanne

That's not entirely true, you only have to sign and send the form back if only want some of the direct debits/standing orders transferred. It says very clearly on the letter that if you are happy for all the debits on the list to be transferred then you do not have to do anything.0 -

Don't you have to inform your employer yourself?Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
I switchd to A & L a few months back, everything was transferred to my new account with no problems.. There was about 2 direct debits out of about 10 which didnt go through in time and had a little problem with, but nothing that caused much hassle. I even got my £100 for switching in my account quicker than the 3 months they said it would take.
maybe I a lucky one tooComping again0 -
Don't you have to inform your employer yourself?
You should have got a letter through the post to say they had contacted your employer about your new account. They also advised that you should speak to your employer just to make sure they have updated their records so they pay your wage to your new bank account.
Like with direct debits you should have got a letter which showed every direct debit that was against your old account and they asked you to mark any direct debits you didnt want to be transfered, sign it an send it back. If you didnt sign the letter and send it back they would transfer every direct debit across from your old accound to your new account.
To be honest I was dubious about switching to a new bank thinking it would be more hassle than its worth, but I couldnt fault A & L with the transfer and how they kept me informed about how the transfers etc were coming alongComping again0 -
yes Thay tryed to do the same with me nothing was swiched over from my LLoyds account to my new A&L account.
I ended up having a row with them over the phone. In the end i swiched all the stuff myself. The account then got funded with the min £500 so after another phone call they did pay me the £100! But it was a load oof hassel.
Thay paid me the money in january and i have not used the account since febuary. Thay have sent me a letter telling me that i must fund the account with a min of £500 per month to keep the account open.
If i dont do this thay will close the account and send any clearled funds in the account to me.
Im just going to let them close the account. There is nothing wrong with them or the account. I only opend it to get the £100. Now iv got it tahy can close it
I wonder how many people have done this???????:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
