i need a key cut too so it would be interesting what it costs. look on ebay for a fob and get it reprogrammed - i believe reprogramming costs arounnd £40

I've just been quoted by my local VW dealers for this - £124.31 for the actual key, £49.50 for the programming. Good news is that includes VAT!! Doubt very much I'll be paying those extortionate prices!0

Lots of modern keys can't be reprogrammed. I know Vauxhall ones (Astra H/Zafira/etc) definitely cannot.0 -

What other choices do you have, other than going without the key?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Hmm....where did you hear that? I'd be very interested to know. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
That's about spot on, but there are a couple of options. In some instances you can get a non-remote version that reduces the key cost to £60-70. Programming is half an hour's labour (£46 where I am) but that is the same whether there is 1 or 10 keys there.JillsDaughter wrote: »I've just been quoted by my local VW dealers for this - £124.31 for the actual key, £49.50 for the programming. Too many times we've had people come in with fob's from eBay and they just do not code. They have the wrong chip, no chip, or in one instance no PCB inside at all!! It really is hit and miss, and in my humble opinion a false economy. Rather get it done right 1st time, and bite the bullet. It's cheaper to get a new key than the recovery charges/locksmith etc, and then a new key on top, that you'd need if you lose the only one you have.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0
