When we sold, we replaced the kitchen cupboard doors (with cheap but reasonable looking ones from B&Q (or some other DIY store - don't remember!) and staged the house with nice bedding. I have been told not to spend lots of money, as we won't recoup it in the sale. I have 'tidied' the place up though and lots and lots of cleaning to make the windows sparkle, the paint work all look clean and I'm hiring a carpet cleaner this week before the house goes on the market hopefully, this weekend.
I think it depends on what needs doing. I'd prefer to put in my own kitchen/bathroom so long as the selling price reflects that the rooms need updating rather than have someone put in their choices, or update with a cheap B&Q offer

Tidy up, dont do anything else. Spend 10k on windows it may add 5k, spend 10k on conservatory may add 4k!! No point, people like to make the house their house and they can do this by making changes and improvements. You will be better off selling as is in this market.Totally without prejudice! We sold a similar sounding property in Suffolk two years ago. It needed: new windows and sofits, decorating throughout, new carpets, new heating system (had an old but functioning back boiler) outside rendering repairing and painting (it was all cracked), a brick workshop behind the garage needed attention as the door and windows were rotten, as was the wooden frame for the front porch. The kitchen and bathroom had both been done about 5 years earlier so were Ok but nothing amazing as had been done on a tight budget! The garden was just a basic (and rough) lawn with a few odd plants but certainly not a feature!

We got three EAs round to value it and asked each of them which improvements we should do before putting it on the market. All three told us not to bother doing anything but to sell it just as it was as a property 'needing modernisation' as they said if you do some bits of the list you can guarentee these will not be the things a prospective buyer would be interested in or like and to do the whole lot would have cost about 60K (they thought if we did this then we might get about 30K extra and sell a bit quicker). We took their advice, although I was quite embarrassed to show people round.... nothing like selling your home for making you aware of what is wrong with it!
However, we got plenty of interest from people keen to do something up themselves and were lucky enough to sell eventually (after dropping the price a bit). I would certainly advise (as PPs have done) that you get 2 or 3 EAs round to value and ask their advice. Good luck “A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

People like properties that look spacious, light and airy. Clean, declutter and clean some more: a proper clear out and a proper Spring clean. Clean the windows, wash the curtains and sofa covers, clean the oven and chuck out half the stuff in the kitchen cupboards and wardrobes (we all like a nosy!). Do all the little jobs that you never got round to finishing, and paint only if it's a dodgy colour or very chipped/ scuffed.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Lots of people like a 'blank canvas' - ie something that requires work and something they can add to and change to their own tastes. So the conservatory that you have placed in that great spot may be the thing that turns them off because they would have put it somewhere else.
When I was looking round I was forever looking at what I would do (and we only ever looked at properties requiring a fair bit of work).0
