advice appreciated

So today my oh got laid off, is not due redundancy pay as is 4 weeks off the 2year period to qualify. I work part-time but the trouble is the loan & 2 credit cards are in my name - We also pay for a car on finance but that is in my mums name (wasn't able to get credit for it so she did it for me).
Obviously payment protection is not going to kick in so tomorrow I was going to ring Welcome (loan), Asda credit card, vanquis credit card to explain the situation and see if they can do anything with the payments - as for the card finance I don't know what to do (my dad was made redundant in april so my parents not in a posistion to help out and pay it),My mum spoke with Creation finance a few weeks ago to explain husband made redundant and to see if payments could be lowered (they are £338. monthly),they said they could refinance it but she then got turned down because she only earns £500 a month and they felt she could not afford to refinance even though this would have lowered the payments to £250a month.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
to be honest i'm not expecting the companies to role over lower payments etc- I do think its gonna be a battle but i'm trying to do the right thing by them and its not like I don't have the intention of paying them because I do but if it boils down to keeping a roof over our head ( also have 2 children aged 3 & 5) then I obviously will be paying me rent instead of them.

thanks in advance for any advice - like most people I didn't think I would be in this situation!
x

Laid off or finished. Laid off is a different kettle of fish and youi are still employed until they give you notice.

So have they given you notice to end your employment

Did he get a notice period? and I am assuming that he is 4 weeks short of the 2 years after his notice period?
Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p

Unsure of the exact date and cannot find paperwork at the mo, what would it mean if his 2yr period was up within the 4weeks notice he was given?
  • Not a lot unfortunately, as it is only statutory notice they go off, so he would have to have worked 1 year, 11months and 3 weeks for his notice to then take him over into qualifying for redundancy payments.

I would suggest maybe making a post on the Debt Free wannabe board for help with those

    Hope you get things sorted
