Hi guys,
Just a quick one. me and my partner had a baby in october 08 and put in a claim for tax credits. We provided estimated income for 07-08 tax year and were awarded about £60 a week.
I then lost my Job and called them up to say our income had gone down a lot and they asked me for how much I expect to earn in 08/09 figures. I gave these which turned out to be acurate to just £100 off. They increased our award.
We recieved a letter from tax credits saying to phone them to renew. Which we just did. They want our 07/08 figures. Unfortunatly I lost my p60 for that year and the companys gone bust. I am pretty sure we earnt quite a lot more that year though.
I said that as I started our claim in the 08/09 tax year and have final 08/09 figures is that information not irrelevant.
They said no and coulnt explain to me why they needed them. eventually they said tax credits are based on two years of income not one!?!
all the paperwork i've read internet ETC say that the previous tax years figures are used to ESTIMATE the present years credits.
surely as I started my claim in 08/09 and have my 08/09 figures right they can work it out from that?
any idea why they need these figures? am i right in thinking they are irrelevent? I'm so confused and have no idea how to get this info.
My girlfriend is in a panic as if we lose this money we wont be able to live.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thankyou!!!

They will Need your 07/08 figures, as they base your award on the Previous Years final earnings.
It might be best for you to contact inland revenue and see if they can send you out a duplicate P60:j Things can only get Better :j0
