Yes its a one year course, I will be off IS by the time they change the rules that you cant get IS for a child over 7  Can I get IS while I am doing my masters?
You realised where I was coming from!

I don't see why not; you don't have to be available for work with a child of this age and you seem to have the savings limits sorted.

Im pretty sure they wont. You are normally only penalised once. Maybe worth a call to housing benefits.

When I was in this position I was 'penalised' both by JSA and by Housing Benefit.

But if you are on IS you get maximum housing benefit

Can I ask how the HB section know you have savings? Is it a question on the form and do you have to give your bank account details, do they check it to make sure that you have what you say you have? What if you say you have no savings and no accounts but you do have really, do/can they find out?

Never been in this situation, never had savings of anywhere near £6000. Purely curious.
