Which broadband setup is best for me?

I hope I've got the right bit of the forum here, can anyone help me?

My broadband is about to go live on April 1st (oh dear) and this morning I received a (BT?) Voyager 105 USB modem, supplied free as part of the connection.

My PC is upstairs and, crucially, my telephone is downstairs - connected as they are by two different sockets.

If I understand this correctly, once broadband is on upstairs I won't be able to use the 'phone as is the case with my present dial-up service.

My assumption is that the supplied filters only work if both the data and voice sockets are used, so I can't use a filter upstairs for broadband and downstairs for telephony (is this correct?)

The conclusion I came to was that I could plug in the telephone base upstairs alongside the broadband, but this can only be a short-term solution as, for family reasons, the phone needs to be downstairs.

So basically, what's the best way of keeping the phone downstairs, broadband upstairs and able to use both at the same time?

A colleague recommended a Linksys WAG354UK router(?), is this what i need?

*phew*

Sorry this is long-winded, but I'm at a loss as to what to do, I'll try to answer any questions if I've missed anything.

Hope you can help, thanks for looking.

You can use the phone and broadband at the same time.. which is you need the filter.. (which is like a splitter) without it you will get interference

A router is useful, because it gives you additional protection with it's firewall, but if you only have one PC, and it is near any phone point, then you can use the PC and phone at the same time, you just need one filter for each piece of telephone equipment you have (usually you get 2 free with the usb modem).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
