Virgin Cancellation Fees

Hi

Just got a cancellation charge of £40 from Virgin Media after cancelling their service without 30 days notice.

We have been with Virgin for T.V, Phone and Broadband for 3 years and have not signed up to any new contracts with them within this time, so I assume we just had a rolling contract.

We needed to cancel because we had to move house with very short notice.

Considering we have been with them for three years I'm not sure its fair. Are they right or is their a way we can we get out of this?

Thanks

Are you sure you need to cancel? Perhaps you can set it up in your new home and move the account across?

Assuming the new charge is less than you pay per month, don't see it as being too bad?
    I love surprises!

Unfortunately, even with a rolling contract you still need to give 30 days notice.Considering you have been with them for three years, you could write to them explaining your circumstances and ask whether they are willing to write it off as a gesture of goodwill.

Unfortunately we can't get it were we are moving to, although it was starting to get pretty expensive anyways.
I've been looking at the Virgin website T and C's and they are not very clear. I can't find T and C's that seem to relate to my product and anything I see that mentions cancellation does not mention a fee.
If I was within the 12 months I could understand.
I think I'm going to have to go down the grovelling and asking for clemency route for what its worth.
I thought I read somewhere that if you were out of the initial contract length in this case 12 months then you are free of your contract obligations and free to change without charge. Maybe it was wrong.

30 days notice is standard for most of those things.

Often with these sort of things, the service is portable. If they cannot provide service at your new property then you can generally terminate without charge.
