scanned document to word document

is there a program i can download that will convert a scanned document to a microsoft word document?

    You could try SimpleOCR, but I suspect you'll get better results typing it in by hand.

    OmniPage; ABBYY Fine Reader; Paper Port, etc.

    I've used ABBYY Fine Reader and it works quite well.

    In my experience OCR or any Optical Character Recognition software is .. RUBBISH! All flavours....

    Agree with Tanglefoot - Will be quicker to type.....

    (Natwest tried to implement a similar software to read cheques at a cost of 2 mil..... went back to humans in the end. Says it all really)

    If you're on windows, you can print it out to Microsoft Document Imaging and then there's an option to recognise text using OCR, you'll still need to copy and paste it across. Can be a bit hit and miss at times but it's worth a go.

    A vote for ABBY Fine Reader here - was surprised how well the OCR worked on printed text, down to small point sizes. No use for handwriting, though!
