I have just had our car serviced and MOT by the main Hyundai dealer, it passed its MOT with no problems whatsoever but we have been advised that we will need a new clutch, timing belt and gearbox oil change . The vehicle has always been regularly serviced by the main dealer due to the 5 year warranty which will expire at the end of June and it has only done 34,000 miles and only 6,000 in the last year (we don't do many miles in a year). Can anyone advise if it is the right time to change the clutch and timing belt, find it hard to believe that both need done already.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Timing belt will be due for a change anyway not worth skimping on this. Clutch? I might be tempted to chance my arm for a bit longer but I suspect someone driving it must ride the clutch (keep foot hovering over the pedal)?0

The timing belt renewal will be a precautionary measure.
The clutch replacement will be because it's knackered. Have you not noticed it slipping?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hintza - my husband is the main driver and he assures me he does not ride the clutch, its the first thing I asked him!
Premier - My husband says he thinks its slipping but I don't notice any difference but I hardly drive the car.
Does anyone know what price you would estimate a timing belt would cost with labour and also the transmission fluid etc. We have been given a price from Hyundai but feel its a bit pricey?0 -
This will be expensive i'm afraid, it's a big job to change the clutch on nearly all 4x4's as there's just so much more work to do.
You could get quotes from an independent to see how they compare, but i'd be inclined to let Hyundai change the cambelt anyway for peace of mind.
Be glad you don't have an old school 4x4 with oil changes required for both gearboxes and both axles...been there not cheap.
The gear oil change won't be expensive, but the other 2 job quotes probably raised your eyebrows.0 -
