Problems with Life insurance policy. Pls Help!!!

Hi,

Sorry I am a newbie to this site so I was wondering if someone could advise me on an issue I am having with my father’s life insurance policy. My dad has had his policy a good few years, and two weeks ago he suffered a stroke, so I contacted his insurance provider to see if he could make a claim as he would be out of work for a considerable amount of time, only to be told that he wasn’t actually covered for critical illness, but instead he had terminal illness cover meaning that we wouldn’t be able to claim. This came as a surprise to him, as he was adamant that upon renewing his policy he requested for critical illness cover. However the only document that I have to prove that he is even covered is a sheet of paper mentioning he had Life insurance with terminal illness. Is there anything I can do to resolve this matter, any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. He brought his insurance directly from the insurer Legal & General to be exact.

They will have issued paperwork showing TI ( although the accompying summary may actually also talk about other options- inc CI ) my guess its sold "without advice" so only hope would be if he got either web print out or can get a recording of call ( depending how he purchased)

He has no come back then. If you don't buy through an adviser you take on the responsibility of knowing what you are buying. It is a common error by those that arrange their own insurance to mix up critical illness and terminal illness or assume they mean the same thing. Sometimes the search to get things cheaper can actually work out more expensive.
