Cheap hotel in Paris

Can anyone recommend a cheapish hotel but good quality in Paris, near the shops and Arc de Triomphe? Hubby and I are going for Valentines Day next year, 8) I know we are planning in advance but we thought we were getting this year and I ended up having to go into hospital again for my 20th operation! I have looked for hotels in this area but the sites say they are not available!? ;)

Hello Jo- you may get more luck in the travel section.

I always check tripadvisor.com before booking hotels.

Thanks Alison for responding! I tried the travel section as you suggested but I had no luck so I thought I might have better luck here!

    Try the following links
    http://www.paris-touristoffice.com/index_va_v2.html and

    http://www.parishotelreservation.com/contexthandling?&partner=AF707

You should look for a hotel in the 1,8,16,17th arrondissement to be near the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees etc, but they are the more expensive areas. I am suprised that they are all booked already. Make sure you are entering 2005 and not 2004! It may be that online bookings can not be made that far in advance.

    Good luck,

Thanks for your help! I looked both sites but the cheapiest I could find was a room only for 130 euros. :'( It was a 3* which is basically a 2* here! I am delighted you tried and maybe I need to spend more time looking at the site or maybe I need to be prepared to spend more money! ;D

    go somewhere else..

    paris will be booked already!

How about Prague.. I went for valentines and my birthday this year with my B/F and it was the best holiday ever and really really cheap! The whole holiday only cost £400 for both of us for a 4* Hotel for 6 nights (crowne plaza) and flight etc.. was fantastic.. It's gone up since then but should be able to get other hotels at a good price..

Have you tried https://www.octopustravel.com? We used that site for Valentines Day in Genoa this year, and came up with some really good options.

Or alternatively https://www.fhr.fr. Basically it's "French Hotel Reservations" or something like that. There is a "deal" on there at the moment, but I don't know whether it's specifically for Paris. Something like "book now and save up to 50%".

Ibis Hotels (Novotel etc) is a french hotel chain - https://www.ibishotel.com Ibis is about 2 star (though excellent quality in the ones that I've stayed at), then Novotel and Mercure are a bit higher.

And finally https://www.ichotelgroup.com This is for the Intercontinental group and Holiday Inn chains.

    Best of luck!

I stayed at the 3* Suede (I think it was either Libertel or Novotel) a few years ago and it was nice, if a little basic - but what do you expect when it's low-priced accommodation?

The main benefit was, it was very handy for the Champs Elysees.

Random moneysaving fact: my sister worked at one of the restaurants in Disneyland Paris that summer and got two of us in for FREE with a half price offer on food while we were there. ;D

Thanks for all the help! I am going to look at the links now. ;):D

lellie I have the flights booked and paid for so I just need the accomodation. I was in Paris in Sept 2002 but I was involved in a hit and run accident in March 2003 and lost vision in one eye and some vision in the other. They have given me to August of this year or October at the latest and they say my vision will be gone completely. Not great news as I am only 27 and I want back to France to see the sites so I have to live in hope like a lot of others! The 20 operations are all since the accident and for my eyes. :o

Anyone else who would like to make a suggestion regarding accommodation please feel free! ;)
