tax rebate from jsa paid into wrong account

the last time i got a job in december i was given 502.00 tax rebate , the problem is that they paid it into the wrong bank account even though i had given them the correct bank account when i signed on, the bank account they used was one i last used in 2006 which has been passed onto debt collectors and the bank only wants to speak to me to get repayment of what i owe them.

i asked for a copy of my JSA application which stated the correct bank account i would use to receive any benefits.

now the problem i have is that the benefits agency are saying its up to me to get the money back off the bank even though they are the ones who made the mistake

i really need some advice on where i stand, as i gave the jobcentre the correct details and i stated to them that i had this account because i was in trouble with money.

can anyone suggest where i go next as i believe that they are in the wrong and should pay me my tax refund to the account i gave them when i signed on.

i hope this makes sense to someone on here.

If they paid it into the wrong account then it is up to them to retrievev the money. There is a branch within the DWP that deal with that.

As you owe the bank money though, why don't you want this rebate to pay some of that debt off? As it cuts down your debt I would have thought that would be a relief to you.Just a thought and not a judgement.

    lets put it this way

I get £0.00 a week sick pay due to not having enough stamps
the housing benefit office suspended my benefits and took my wife to court for not telling them her hours changed weekly where in fact we did tell them and they could see it by her wage slips.
i am in debt for 60k after losing my good job

it makes no difference to me if i repay or not i can never afford it. that money would help me stay housed and fed.

would you rather me dead or alive and able to sort out my finances. to be honest jumping off a cliff would be easiest but i am too scared to do that
